ACTION ALERT: Tell Government to Review Anti-Muslim Extremists Entering Canada

Monday, September 09, 2013

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), a prominent Muslim civil liberties & advocacy organization, calls on supporters and citizens of conscience to urgently contact the federal Minister of Public Safety Steven Blaney to urge him to review whether foreign anti-Muslim extremists Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer should be allowed to enter Canada for an upcoming speaking appearance in Toronto. Spencer is also scheduled to speak on September 13 in Grande Prairie, Alberta as well as on September 19th in Jordan Station, Ontario.

Geller and Spencer are notorious leaders of the anti-Muslim group Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), which has been designated as a hate group by respected watchdogs such as the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Jewish Anti-Defamation League. American experts say they "pursue a conspiratorial anti-Muslim agenda". In June 2013, Geller and Spencer were banned by the British Government from entering the UK because of their public record of hatemongering and Islamophobia.

On Aug. 27th NCCM sent a letter to Minister Blaney signed by over 80 prominent leaders, as well as local and national community organizations and associations representing thousands of Canadians, urging him to review the eligibility of Geller and Spencer to enter Canada.

READY-TO-USE LETTER

Dear Minister Blaney:

I write today to urge you to independently review the admissibility of foreign extremists Pamela Geller & Robert Spencer to enter Canada for a speaking event on September 17th in Toronto. Mr. Spencer is also scheduled to appear at speaking events on September 13th in Grande Prairie, Alberta and on September 19th in Jordan Station, Ontario.

They are notorious leaders of the anti-Muslim extremist group Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), which has been designated as a hate group by respected watchdogs such as the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Jewish Anti-Defamation League. In June 2013, Geller and Spencer were banned by the British Government from entering the UK because of their public record of hatemongering. Terrorists like Anders Breivikhave quoted and have been inspired by their hateful views.

Your office can view their record of hate.

Their ultimate objective is to incite hatred against Muslims and their very presence in Canada will give encouragement to extremists and bigots. Their goals undermine Canadian values of mutual understanding, diversity and social harmony.

While the government has frequently allowed anti-Muslim speakers into Canada, other troubling individuals have been denied entry. There should not be a double standard as it suggests the government is being selective. I therefore further urge you to apply a consistent standard when reviewing the admissibility of foreign hate speakers Pamela Geller & Robert Spencer.

I trust you will give this matter immediate attention and I look forward to your response. Thank you.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
[City, Province]
